The lion, born in 2010, had ruled the Namiri plains in eastern SENAPA. But it was outnumbered and defeated by three younger males and died in his territory on the morning of March 11. According to the Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute (TAWIRI), there are around 3,500 lions in Tanzania, with most of the big cats found along the Ruaha-Rungwa ecosystem.
